The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries will exhibit rare books, manuscripts,
maps, photographs and other items from over 200 years of Cuban history and culture.
These include early imprints on Cubas colonial past, efforts for self-governance, slavery,
nationalism, foreign investment, crime, womens rights, spirituality, popular culture and
human rights.

Special attention will be given to twentieth century political movements and upheavals.
January 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castros revolution, and the far
reaching impacts of those events and their lasting changes on Cuba, Florida and the
world will be examined.

Exhibit open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Mon-Thurs and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fri
