Its Fun to Dance: Theory of the Haitian Meringue
Subjects: Technical Writing and Instruction
Assignment Type: Multimedia Project
Using the Theory of the Haitian Meringue, create a technical document that best explains how to do the Haitian Meringue. This document should be created for web delivery and should cover all of the pertinent information in Theory of the Haitian Meringue.
Points to consider:
The dance information begins on page 13. How much of the earlier information will you include? Why or why not? During your presentation, you will be required to explain.
Your documentation is addressing dance, and so it should include video because dance is an art in motion.
Your audience will be those learning to dance. Thus, they will likely want to be able to follow along and practice with the instructions. How will you accommodate the need to be in motion with the need to provide self-paced instruction? Will you include multiple formats? Repeat often? Multiple video clips?
How will you present the video: downloadable, on a school streaming server (do you have access?), on a commercial site?
What are common conventions of dance and performance training materials? What conventions will you follow? Which will you deviate from? During your presentation, you will be required to explain your choices and research for the instructional design.
This assignment requires a complete dance instruction for the Haitian Meringue that is publicly accessible online as well as a class presentation on the materials.
