Early Historic Danish West Indies Newspapers Digitized, News Release, August 29, 2016

Danish West Indian newspaper titles being digitized by the Statsbiblioteket include The Bulletin, the Danish West Indian, Lightbourn’s Mail Notes, The Herald, The Royal Danish American Gazette, Danish West Indian Regierings Avis, St. Croix Avis, The Saint Croix Bulletin, The Saint Thomas Gazette, Sanct Thomæ Journal, the Saint Thomas Herald and The West End News. The Territorial Archives, a unit of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums, in collaboration with the Digital Library of the Caribbean and the University of the Virgin Islands, is also digitizing for free public access issues of D. Hamilton Jackson’s newspaper, The Herald. Over 3,000 pages are already available online. See the full news announcement.

Diversity Award from the Society of American Archivists to the Latin American & Caribbean Cultural Heritage Archives Roundtable's Webinar Series (LACCHA Webinars, co-sponsored by dLOC and ACURIL)

The Latin American & Caribbean Cultural Heritage Archives (LACCHA) Roundtable webinar series, co-sponsored by dLOC and ACURIL, “Desmantelando Fronteras/Breaking Down Borders,” is the 2016 recipient of the Society of American Archivists' Diversity Award. This award recognizes an individual, group, or institution for outstanding contributions in advancing diversity within the archives profession, SAA, or the archival record. (Full announcement)

Caribbean Writer Launch Event

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) with the support of dLOC will be hosting a launch of the Caribbean Writer’s digital release of its historical volumes.  This event will be held on Wednesday April 13, 2016, 5:30pm – 7:00pm at the UVI Libraries in St Thomas, St Croix and FIU’s Library Special Collections; with a light reception to follow at the UVI Library and FIU Special Collections.   

We encourage faculty members and students participation to this commemorative event either in the US Virgin Islands or in Miami. There will be distinguished guest speakers from the Caribbean at the event locations. UVI event program and UVI flier, and FIU event flier.
